MAT2820   Computational Methods with MATLAB   (10 credits)

Year Running: 2015/2016
Credit level: F5

Description

This module provides a practical introduction to the most common numerical methods used in Science and Engineering. Basic concepts including numerical data analysis, numerical integration and differentiation, solution of non-linear problems, linear equation solvers and solution methods for differential equations will be covered. A first look at more advanced methods will be given by introducing the concept of Genetic Algorithms. Each lecture will be built around the modelling package, MATLAB. Students will learn both the mathematical theory behind each of these techniques and be able to confidently use MATLAB to solve simple engineering problems using them.
